The Region

Vatika and nearby placesVatika is a part of the Greek land which, millions of years ago, was covered by water. The geological form of the region changed so many times due to the tremendous upheaval in the deepest layers of the earth's crust. The land of Vatika is located in the southernmost edge of continental Europe and the Cape Maleas ends within Myrtoo Sea.

Vatika is a treasure, a magical place that is revealed gradually to all visitors. To archaeologists with ancient temples, to the divers with old shipwrecks, to the religious wanderers with monasteries and churches (over 130)which justly give to the area the name "Small Holy Mountain"and to the environmentalists with the unique petrified forest of Vatika, which lies mostly in Agia Marina, Korakas and Spitha but also in other areas of the region. Climbers are focusing their interests on vertical rocks rising in all areas of Cape Malea, and the walkers in a network of walking paths that offer unique experiences as the region has a plurality of landspaces.

A spelaelogical treasure is hidden beneath each cluster of rocks, the cave of Agios Andreas is ready to offer his beauty to every visitor. Rich in density and variety of shapes, colors and forms, ranks second in his kind at Europe! At a depth of three meters in islet Pavlopetri is the "laconic Atlantis" one Helladic settlement, which have been identified to have three Minoan graves and dozens of other sites of archaeological interest.

Of course, all those described are surrounded by blue, small sandy beaches with turquoise and calm area, it is impossible to let you indifferent. If you want sandy beaches, tropical colors, remote villages and authentic people of the sea visit Vatika. Whatever you are asking in your holidays, you will find it here in the south Peloponissos, in tha distant point of Laconia, in Neapolis or "Vatika" as locals insist to name their place.
